Private meetings, close to the event

Events bring people together. Finding space for a focused, private conversation is part of making those connections useful.

At Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), four FocusPod Meet pods provided dedicated spaces for smaller meetings during events. Positioned within the venue, they gave attendees somewhere to sit down and talk while staying close to the activity around them.

A place to continue the conversation

The brief was straightforward: create comfortable, enclosed meeting spaces within a large, open environment. Somewhere a conversation could continue beyond an introduction, with room to discuss a project, meet a potential partner or work through the details together.

The four-pod arrangement allowed several groups to meet at the same time, giving those conversations a clear place within the wider event setting.

Four pods. A shared purpose.

Each FocusPod Meet paired facing upholstered seating with a shared table. The glass frontage kept the pods visually connected to the venue, while the enclosed layout created separation from the surrounding activity.

The photograph captures the purpose clearly: all four pods occupied, with people sitting across the table from one another. The space is being used for the kind of conversation that benefits from somewhere to settle in.

Inside the meeting space

The closer views show how the interior was arranged for a conversation across the table. Upholstered benches face one another, with a shared tabletop between them and lighting running along the ceiling. A wall-mounted power point sits beside the seating.

That layout gives attendees somewhere to sit together with a laptop, notes or a drink while they talk. The photographs show the meeting spaces in use, as well as an empty interior that makes the arrangement easy to see.

From inside, the exhibition floor remains visible through the glass. The pod creates an enclosed room within the hall while keeping people visually connected to the stands and activity just outside.

Another way to use an open space

The MCEC installation shows how meeting pods can add a dedicated function within a larger venue. Alongside the spaces that bring people together, there is room for smaller groups to focus on the conversation in front of them.

For venues planning a similar setup, the starting point is how the space will be used: the number of simultaneous meetings, the seating layout and the flow of people around each pod.
